Raw Five-Point Preview: April 28, 2014

No doubt still feeling the effects of Kane’s onslaught last week, WWE World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan has nevertheless affirmed he will be at this week’s Raw, live in St. Louis. Will the “Yes!” Man suffer the wrath of his Extreme Rules opponent once again, or will Stephanie McMahon be able to rein in the demon she has unleashed? Also on Raw, “X-Men: Days of Future Past” star Hugh Jackman drops in on the WWE Universe. What can Wolverine himself expect during his second visit to Monday night’s hottest show? WWE.com offers five early thoughts on the final Raw before Extreme Rules.

WWE Tag Team Champions The Usos to defend titles against RybAxel on Raw

n the wake of an action-packed edition of SmackDown, WWE.com has learned that WWE Tag Team Champions The Usos will defend their illustrious titles against Ryback & Curtis Axel this Monday on Raw at 8/7 CT on the USA Network. In addition to a recent romp through the tag team division by the newly named No. 1 contenders, the intriguing title contest comes on the heels of The Usos losing back-to-back singles contests to their challengers — Jimmy fell to Ryback on this week’s episode of “WWE Main Event,” while Jey was defeated by Axel on SmackDown. Will the high-flying Samoan Superstars succeed in another title defense as their reign nears two months? Or, will RybAxel follow up their impressive singles victories over the champions by capturing WWE’s twin titles? Tune in to Raw this Monday at 8/7 CT on USA Network to find out!

Daniel Bryan injury update

After falling victim to three Tombstone Piledrivers at the hands of Kane on Raw, Daniel Bryan was diagnosed with a cervical cord neurapraxia — a contusion of the spinal cord which results in numbness and tingling sensations in the arms, WWE.com has learned. Following the attack, the WWE World Heavyweight Champion was stretchered from the ringside area and rushed to the trainer’s room, where he was evaluated by WWE medical personnel. According to WWE physician Dr. Chris Amann, Bryan experienced weakness and numbness in both arms, prompting further testing at a nearby medical facility. “As of the last examination, [Bryan] did have some residual weakness in his arms, however, we expect this to clear up relatively quickly,” Dr. Amann said. “Once he regains his full strength, he will be fully cleared for participation.” Bryan is currently resting at home, but has said he plans on competing next week on Raw. Bad News Barrett def. Sheamus to advance in the Intercontinental Championship No. 1 Contender’s Tournament

Bad news travels fast, and the luck of the Irish ran dry on Raw when Bad News Barrett elbowed Sheamus out of the running to face Big E for the Intercontinental Championship in the semifinals of the No. 1 Contender’s Tournament that began last week. The Irishman had promised his hooligans a “Big Bad Brogue Kick” to shut Barrett’s famous mouth and he rolled out of the gate strong to set the Brit up for just that, clobbering Barrett’s sternum with the Ten Beats of the Bodhrán and following up with the Irish Curse. Barrett’s fighter’s reflexes saved him from doom when he dodged the Brogue Kick and scooped up a ricocheting Sheamus into the Winds of Change. Sheamus didn’t let the move slow him down, which turned out to be his downfall: The three-time Intercontinental Champion chose to use Sheamus’ momentum against him, unleashing a springing Bad News elbow to the Irishman’s head as Sheamus ran to chase him ...

Monsters and demons reign as Kane attacks Bryan

BALTIMORE – Out of the honeymoon, into the fire: Daniel Bryan’s time off the grid with Brie Bella came to an unceremonious end when an old friend gave him a brutal, belated gift that surely wasn’t on the registry. Bryan’s former fellow Tag Team Champion Kane proved to be the walking “something old” when the demon reared his head during the Champion of Champions’ homecoming. Clad in his signature red mask (“something new”), Kane administered something borrowed – his brother’s Tombstone Piledriver, three times over – that sent Bryan to a local medical center with a severe stinger, which caused a burning sensation down his neck and arms. Despite Stephanie McMahon's unheeded commands for Kane to stop , the attack leaving the WWE Universe feeling collectively blue … though in a few weeks’ time, it’ll be Bryan who sees red when, per Stephanie's decree, he defends his title against Th...

Divas Champion Paige vs. Tamina Snuka

Paige may have unwittingly backed her way into winning the Divas Championship from AJ Lee, but to keep hold of the Divas division’s top prize, she’ll have to survive a one-on-one contest with AJ’s muscle, Tamina Snuka, at Extreme Rules. After spending months in AJ’s corner, helping the sinister skipper secure the longest Divas Championship reign in history, Tamina stepped out of the shadows on the April 15 edition of WWE Main Event to win a No. 1 Contender’s Battle Royal. Her dominant display in the match bumped Tamina to the head of the line of contenders, and on May 4, she’ll set her sights on The Diva of Tomorrow. Watch Paige defend the NXT Women's Championship at ArRIVAL The matchup is a fascinating one for fans of Divas action. There are obvious parallels, such as the fact both competitors grew up in wrestling families. Tamina is the daughter of WWE Hall of Famer Jimmy Snuka, while Paige learned the ropes in Norwich, England, from her parents, Ricky & S...

John Cena vs. Bray Wyatt (Steel Cage Match)

John Cena may have left WrestleMania 30 with his legacy intact after defeating Bray Wyatt, but The Eater of Worlds is far from finished with his legendary foe. Wyatt will continue his devilish quest to unleash the monster that he believes resides inside Cena at Extreme Rules on May 4, when the two clash in a Steel Cage Match. Wyatt has made it clear from the outset that he is determined to reveal Cena’s virtuous persona, and that his mantra of “Hustle, Loyalty, Respect” is nothing more than a façade hiding the nasty underbelly of the 14-time World Champion. In the midst of a chaotic battle that saw Cena take out both Luke Harper and Erick Rowan, Wyatt gave the Cenation leader a steel chair and begged Cena to bash him with it. Cena refused to give in to The New Face of Fear’s beckoning, conquering his fears and countering Sister Abigail into an Attitude Adjustment to claim victory. A heartfelt message from Ultimate Warrior's wife, Dana Warrior

Dearest Warriors, It is with an absolutely broken heart I reach out to you. Since the passing of my husband, I have been fortunate enough to insulate my sweet girls and myself from the outside world. In this bubble we have grieved and continue to do so. For a week, I did not allow any television or media to seep through our cocoon. I was told, though, of the outpouring of love for my beloved husband and support for, as he always called us, his Warrior Girls. I can only say thank you. On Sunday night, I was told WWE would  pay tribute to Warrior and so I set the DVR planning to watch it when we were ready. As the hour neared, I broke resolve and turned on every TV in the house to full blast and snuggled our daughters close to me on the couch, unsure what we would see. As the scene unfolded with that amazing roster of talent gathered donning Ultimate Warrior shirts and even his face paint, we cheered and sobbed simultaneously. To everyone who stood there, thank yo...

Breaking News: Monster Kane attacked Big Show following “WWE Main Event”

Tonight, just moments after “WWE Main Event” went off the air LIVE exclusively on WWE Network, The Big Red Monster returned from nowhere to demolish Big Show and put the WWE Locker room on notice. Exclusive photos of attack After reclaiming his mask from a glass case Monday night on Raw, the Monster Kane reemerged to decisively lay waste to The World’s Largest Athlete. Since taking off his mask and becoming the Director of Operations to The Authority, the scourge of The Devil’s Favorite Demon has been a shadow of its former self. However, now that the monster has been reawakened – 24 hours after the reemergence of Evolution – what will it mean for WWE’s established order in the coming weeks?

Big Show def. Jack Swagger

Jack Swagger had his hands full against the supersize goliath Big Show, who was still seething after Swagger interfered in his match against Cesaro on last Friday’s SmackDown. As the two former World Champions waged war, Swagger pushed The World’s Largest Athlete to the brink of his pain threshold with a punishing Patriot Lock. But Big Show powered through the pain, and dropped Swagger with a brutal KO Punch to claim victory. Watch replay on WWE Network  |  Highlights | Photos

Tamina Snuka won a Divas Championship No. 1 Contender Battle Royal

Taking to Twitter earlier in the evening to announce the No. 1 Contender Battle Royal, SmackDown General Manager Vickie Guerrero caught the attention of the entire Divas roster. The lucky 10 chosen to compete were Nikki Bella, Cameron, Naomi, Emma, Tamina, Alicia Fox, Aksana, Eva Marie, Layla, and Natalya. With Tamina and Natalya the final two combatants, Snuka seized her pay-per-view opportunity with a hard-hitting Superkick to the head of the third-generation Superstar.

os Matadores vs. Drew McIntyre & Jinder Mahal ended in a No Contest

Not to be outdone in the mascot department, 3MB brought in Hornswoggle for reinforcements in their fight against Los Matadores. As the diminutive Superstars locked up in a fiery brawl, the match soon descended into chaos involving all of the participants. With bodies everywhere, it was down to mascot vs. mascot. In the end, Hornswoggle ended up rolling from the ring, while El Torito taunted him to continue their brawl. After tensions between the two during WrestleMania weekend, is this latest battle the start of a burgeoning mascot war? Bad News Barrett def. Sin Cara Fresh off his victory over Dolph Ziggler in the Intercontinental Championship No. 1 Contender’s Tournament Match on last night’s Raw, Bad News Barrett followed it up with a win over Sin Cara. Despite a formidable effort by Sin Cara, the bare-knuckle brawler took down the masked Superstar with a crushing Bad News Bull Hammer to the head.

Formidable No. 1 Contender emerges from Divas Battle Royal

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Divas Champion Paige’s reign could come to an abrupt end at Extreme Rules, now that a formidable No. 1 Contender has emerged. While the news may be unsettling for the young Diva, Bad News Barrett continued to pick up momentum in his quest for Big E’s Intercontinental Title at the upcoming pay-per-view. Rob Van Dam def. Alberto Del Rio to advance in the Intercontinental Championship No. 1 Contender’s Tournament

Well, it wasn’t for the World Heavyweight Championship, but Rob Van Dam still got an educated leg up over Alberto Del Rio six months after the two clashed over “Big Gold” at WWE Battleground and took a step towards the Intercontinental Title in the process. Van Dam started strong out of the gate by sending “Mexico’s Greatest Export” tumbling with a monkey flip, though Del Rio replied by chucking “Mr. Monday Night” shoulder-first into the barrier. Watch:  Van Dam soars against longtime rival  |Tournament photos:  RVD advances It was touch-and-go for The Whole Dam Show from then on out; Del Rio kicked him in the gut moments after Rolling Thunder put The Essence of Excellence on his heels, and clocked the former WWE Champion with an enziguiri moments before a potential Five-Star Frog Splash could end the night. He wasn’t so lucky a few moments later, though, when Van Dam showed a rare burst of outright aggression by sweeping Del Rio off the turnbuckle and s...

Ryback & Curtis Axel def. Los Matadores

When Ryback tried to hurl El Torito into the ringpost in the midst of tag team turmoil, Los Matadores stopped The Human Wrecking Ball in his tracks. Still, as Fernando got back in the ring, Curtis Axel made him pay for it – hitting an authoritative neckbreaker for the three-count. Cesaro def. Big Show by Disqualification

ntroduced by his new advocate, Paul Heyman, Cesaro went head-to-head with Big Show – the very same giant he  threw over the top rope to win WrestleMania’s Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal on Sunday. Watch as Cesaro became a Heyman Guy  | Exclusive: Michael Cole interviewed Heyman In the height of a contest between The World’s Largest Athlete and “The King of Swing” – before Cesaro could attempt a Cesaro Swing on his gigantic foe – Jack Swagger suddenly attacked his former tag team partner and brought an end to the match by disqualification. Angry over the disruption, Big Show hurled the disruptive Real American out of the ring. Cesaro used this to regain a post-match advantage, hitting the Neutralizer on the giant in the center of the ring!

Wyatt decided to resort to extreme measures with Cena

CAJUNDOME – In the wake of WrestleMania, a showdown that pit WWE World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan & WWE Tag Team Champions The Usos’ against Corporate Kane, The Viper & The Animal descended into chaos. Plus, new “Paul Heyman Guy” Cesaro Neutralized Big Show and Bray Wyatt made an extreme statement to John Cena. The 14-time World Champion John Cena opened SmackDown, celebrating the extraordinary moments of both Sunday’s epic WrestleMania 30 pay-per-view and the following night’s Raw. However, from out of nowhere, he was interrupted by The Wyatt Family, shrouded on darkness on the TitianTron. Wyatt dropped in on Cenation | WrestleMania Photos: Cena vs. Wyatt While conceding that he lost on The Grandest Stage of Them All, Bray Wyatt revealed that the experience allowed him to understand that he has to go to the extreme to bring out the “ monster ” in the Cenation leader.

Ultimate Warrior passes away

WWE is shocked and deeply saddened to learn of the passing of one of the most iconic WWE Superstars ever, The Ultimate Warrior . Warrior began his WWE career in 1987 and quickly went on to become one of the biggest stars in WWE history. Warrior became WWE Champion at WrestleMania VI , defeating Hulk Hogan in an epic encounter. We are grateful that just days ago, Warrior had the opportunity to take his rightful place in the WWE Hall of Fame and was also able to appear at WrestleMania 30 and Monday Night Raw to address his legions of fans. WWE sends its sincere condolences to Warrior’s family, friends and fans. Warrior was 54 and is survived by his wife Dana, his two daughters, his mother, his two sisters and his two brothers. Alexander Rusev def. Sin Cara

The Bulgarian brute, Alexander Rusev made his impressive Raw debut against Zack Ryder. The WWE NXT alum is big, strong and agile, but he certainly faced a unique test on his first-ever WWE Main Event match in the form of the high-flying Sin Cara. WWE Main Event photos  | WWE Main Event highlights Nevertheless, the Ravishing Russian, Lana, isn’t lying when she describes Rusev as the super-athlete. After some aerial maneuvers by Sin Cara, the masked marvel was introduced Rusev’s massive boot. Following a huge slam, Rusev ended Sin Cara’s evening by locking in The Accolade.

The fallout from the Raw after WrestleMania

Jack Swagger def. Dolph Ziggler The Real Americans are no more, tension between Jack Swagger and Cesaro finally came to a head during the WrestleMania 30 pre-show after their defeat at the hands of The Usos. WWE Main Event results: The fallout from the Raw after WrestleMania

CAJUNDOME – WrestleMania 30 was one of the most historic events in WWE history, however, the following night on Raw did not disappoint either. WWE Main Event on WWE Network featured The Shield, The Wyatt Family, Jack Swagger sending a message to Cesaro and the second match of the Bulgarian brute, Alexander Rusev! The Shield def. The Wyatt Family It’s already been a wild week for both The Shield and The Wyatt Family. At WrestleMania 30, The Shield quickly disposed of Kane and The New Age Outlaws. Though Bray Wyatt lost to John Cena on The Grandest Stage of Them All, he certainly got inside the Cenation leader’s head. The Wyatts also picked up an impressive victory against Cena, Sheamus and Big E on Raw. But for the Hounds of Justice, their shocking confrontation with Triple H, Batista, Randy Orton and Kane at the end of Raw has sent shockwaves throughout the WWE Universe. Breaking News: Fandango & Summer break up!

According to a tweet posted by Fandango earlier today, the dancing Superstar has apparently broken things off with his beautiful partner, Summer Rae. Perhaps the abrupt split stems from the suave competitor’s frustration over the pair’s loss to Santino & Emma Monday on Raw. In any event, while no indication has been given as to where things will go from here, they certainly won’t be making beautiful music with each other any time soon. Check back with WWE.com for details on this development as they become available.

Paul Heyman and Brock Lesnar addressed The Streak

Well, we can’t say we weren’t warned. The WWE Universe was told by Paul Heyman, time and again, that his monstrous client would be the one to defy The Undertaker and suck the life from his WrestleMania Streak. Even a day after that fateful F-5 sent The Phenom from the ’72 Dolphins to the ’07 Patriots, it’s difficult to believe the mad scientist’s typically empty rhetoric carried so much weight. Yet, Lesnar and Heyman – with the headlines to back them up – strutted down Bourbon Street  with the swagger of two Egyptian Pharaohs, relating the story of The Deadman’s trip to the hospital and the prevailing excellence of Lesnar himself. As for the WWE Universe, they are nothing more than “wannabes”  in Lesnar’s black-and-blue eyes, while The Anomaly himself is “The one … the one in 21-1.”

WWE World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan addressed the WWE Universe

NEW ORLEANS –  Twenty-four hours later and it still doesn’t seem quite real. But there he was in the flesh , Daniel Bryan – WWE World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan  – galloping all the way down Bourbon Street with his conjoined championships on display as the “Yes!” Movement all but swallowed him whole on the first Raw after WrestleMania ( "YOU-DE-SERVE-IT!" was the chant du jour , as they say in the French Quarter). And Triple H was, as ever, right there to pull Bryan back down to Earth. The King of Kings apparently isn’t one for miracles, as he vowed to kickstart the Reality Era and end Bryan’s reign before it even got going, naming himself as the first challenger to the submission expert’s title later the same evening.
